GAO: Military aid for Pakistan short of money<br /> (AP)<br />

AP - The Defense Department effort to help Pakistan secure its border with Afghanistan and root out Taliban fighters is underfunded by as much as 73 percent — a budget shortfall so severe that it could slow down operations next month, according to a report released Monday.

US military deaths in Afghanistan region at 581<br /> (AP)<br />

AP - As of Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at least 581 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Thursday at 10 a.m. EST.
