AFP - US reinforcements to Afghanistan are awaiting a green light from the White House, which wants to get a better grip on its strategy before sending more troops, US defense officials said Monday.

AP - As of Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at least 573 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Friday at 10 a.m. EST.
