It is the Soldier

As we prepare to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday, let us not forget that the holiday is about more than barbecues and the official beginning of summer vacation. It is about remembering all those members of the U.S. military who have sacrificed their lives in support of our freedom, who have given up all their tomorrows so that we may enjoy ours.

“It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter

Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us . . .”
